What is Public Relations for Nonprofits

April 28, 2020 Nonprofit PR & Marketing, Public Relations Best Practices

Just what is public relations for nonprofits, exactly? Get a better understanding of the term in the video below.

Key Points from the Video: What is Public Relations for Nonprofits

In short, public relations is about relationships (duh).

But here’s the official definition: Public Relations is the management function that establishes and maintains mutually beneficial relationships between an organization and the publics (or audiences) on whom its success or failure depends. It focuses on building and maintaining relationships between organizations and their stakeholder groups.

There are two things I want you to take from that definition…

1. Don’t think of the “public” portion of the term as “the general public” or population.

2. It’s important to remember the part about “mutually beneficial relationships.”
